The NC CCH course is 8 hours of classroom instruction that includes a state-mandated booklet for you to keep. There will be a 20 question closed-book exam consisting of True/False and multiple-choice questions. Most people can pass it with ease even before the classroom instruction. That will be followed by a live-fire shooting exam. There will be plenty of restroom/smoke breaks. Bring your own food and drinks. Instruction will continue through lunch while you eat. After you pass the written exam we will move on to the shooting qualification which can be done immediately after the classroom portion or can be scheduled for a different day.
Unless other arrangements are made beforehand, the shooting portion will be done at the Wake County Firearms Training Center in Apex, NC. Any cost associated to that range time is covered by the $100 course fee. If the shooting portion needs to be completed at a different indoor range then the student will incur all costs for that. If the course is held on property where we can legally and safely shoot outdoors (ideal) then we can do it there onsite.
The time taken to pass the shooting portion depends on where we shoot. Expect 5 minutes minimum and 60 minutes maximum. The range qualification will require that each student fire 10 shots at a target from each distance of 3, 5 and 7 yards, for a total of 30 shots. At least 21 of the shots fired must hit the target. Passing both exams earns you a certificate which you submit to your sheriff along with your NC concealed carry application.
