This fee covers one firearm. Additional firearms are $10 each if transferred at the same time. A valid NC concealed carry permit and driver's license are required. See the Services section for how to start the process.
This fee covers one firearm. Additional firearms are $10 each if transferred at the same time. No concealed carry permit required. Valid ID is required. A background check will be run. See the Services section for how to start the process.
This fee covers a Form 4 or Form 6 transfer for any NFA item. All transfer applications will be done via eFile as Individual or Trust. If you choose Trust you will need to create the trust yourself.
We will fingerprint you and create a digital EFT file for you to keep and use going forward on future NFA applications. We will also take a digital photo that the ATF will accept as your "passport type photo" on the NFA application. We will email you the files to keep. Any dealer you use for the NFA application will be able to use the files. Our fingerprinting method does include non-staining ink (no digital print reader yet) but it washes off easily.
We engrave NFA items and other firearms. Aluminum, stainless, steel, and some titanium can be engraved. 60W JPT fiber MOPA laser and rotary tool are onsite. Engraving costs range due to complexity, art creation, etc. A simple SBR engraving on an AR15 will cost $40. A Form 1 suppressor with text and art could be $100. We will engrave whatever you want so don't be shy! Contact us if you need a ballpark estimate or quote. We can also engrave anodized business cards (you may have seen our's around).
For online purchase transfers:
1) Email or text us FIRST to verify we will be available to receive your order. We may be away for training or vacation and thus not onsite to receive your package. So check with us FIRST! Text or email is the fastest way to reach us. Or leave a voicemail. We may not accept deliveries that were not pre approved by us!
2) Request a copy of our FFL to provide to your seller OR provide the vendor's email AND your order number and we will contact the seller for you. Some businesses like GunBroker and PSA already have our FFL in their database but not all vendors do. The seller will NOT ship to us without a copy of our license (FFL).
3) Place your order and then email us the tracking # ASAP! This ensures that we are available at the time of delivery to sign for your package.
NOTE: Failure to skip any of the above steps may result in the shipping company returning your shipment to the seller and YOU will be responsible for any additional shipping fees incurred.
4) Once the shipment has been received we will contact you to schedule the pickup/transfer. We do not accept visitors/customers without a scheduled appointment. Appointments are typically available the same day the shipment is received. Once the appointment is scheduled we will email you an invoice to pay with a card. We do not keep any card information. You can choose to pay in cash in person but we cannot make change.
OUR TRANSFER POLICIES:
-Any item not transferred within 30 days of delivery will incur a storage fee of $25 per month.
-In the event that the customer cannot complete the transfer, the customer will incur all costs related to shipping the item back to the seller.
-Once you sign the 4473/transfer form we can no longer return a defective item for replacement. Instead it becomes a warranty claim by the customer. If you find an issue prior to the transfer we can return it to the seller. Be sure to inspect your item before completing the transfer. Ask if you have any questions. Upon receipt we verify it is unloaded and visually inspect the exterior. We handle your item as little as possible to ensure you receive it exactly as it arrived. If you would like a function test just ask.
For NFA purchase transfers:
1) Purchase the item and list Shelton Arms (or Shelton Arms LLC) as your local FFL. Request our FFL and SOT paperwork and send it to the seller or send us their email and your order number and we will email our paperwork to them for you.
2) You must create an account on the ATF eForms website here: https://eforms.atf.gov/
Remember your user ID, password, and PIN! They will be required later when the application is submitted.
3) You must get fingerprinted and have a passport type photo taken. We offer this service for a small fee but some other places like PrintScan offer that service as well.
4) Once we have received ATF approval to receive your NFA item we will be able to submit your Form 4 application. We will need to know if this is for an individual (yourself only) or for a gun trust. If it is for a trust, the ATF Responsible Person Questionnaire (Form 5320.23) will need to be completed by you, printed, signed, scanned and saved as a PDF, and provided to us. Or sign the form and we can scan it as a PDF for you. The form is available here: https://www.atf.gov/media/22326/download
NOTE: Each responsible person listed on the trust will be required to be fingerprinted, etc.
5) We then play the waiting game until the ATF decides to approve or deny the application. As of February 2026, we are seeing wait times around 3 to 5 weeks.
6) Once approved we will contact you to schedule a day and time for you to sign the transfer paperwork and pickup the NFA item. If the application is denied for some reason you will be responsible for any shipping costs incurred from returning the item. Or we can discuss holding it while you appeal or have your records reviewed.
